HET NIEUWSBLAD - "Van topfavoriet tot paria" - Analog drawing, digitally colorized - June 2021

For the Belgian daily newspaper "HET NIEUWSBLAD" I was allowed to contribute an illustration to the article "Van topfavoriet tot paria" on the occasion of the European Championship.

It is about the Yugoslavian national team, which had to leave Sweden, where the European Championship 1992 took place, due to political decisions because of the Yugoslavian war. Denmark then could play instead of Yugoslavia, they started the tournament completely unprepared and defeated Germany in the final and became European champions. The illustration shows a situation that actually happened, when the team and its entourage were stuck at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm because the airlines refused to refuel the team's plane.

The illustration has also been shown before in 11FREUNDE in March 2020.

Für die Belgische Tageszeitung „HET NIEUWSBLAD“ durfte ich anlässlich der Europameisterschaft eine Illustration zum Artikel „Van topfavoriet tot paria“ beisteuern.

Es geht um die Jugoslavische Nationalmannschaft, die von der Europameisterschaft 1992 aufgrund politischer Entscheidungen durch den Jugoslavien Krieg wieder aus dem Veranstaltungsland Schweden abreisen mussten. „Nachrückerland“ war damals dann Dänemark, die völlig unvorbereitet in das Turnier starteten und im Finale Deutschland besiegten und Europameister wurden. In der Illu wird die tatsächlich passierte Situation gezeigt, wie die Mannschaft samt Entourage am Flughafen Arlanda in Stockholm festsaßen, weil sich die Gesellschaften weigerten, das Flugzeug der Mannschaft zu betanken.

Die Illustration ist bereits auch schon mal in der 11FREUNDE im März 2020 gezeigt worden.
